Set on a hill that dominates the valley of the Saline River, Città Sant' Angelo is situated 19 km from the centre of Pescara. The town itself has beautiful panaramic views of the Gran Sasso and Majella mountain ranges and the Adriatic sea. The landscape is characterised by the vineyards and olive groves adorning the hillsides, and it is this natural beauty which attracts tourists to discover and explore the area.
The mediaeval town-centre, with its series of alleys and narrow streets, really seems to take you back to another time. Part of the old town-wall is well-preserved as are the four gateways to the town. Città Sant'Angelo also boasts the Collegiata di San Michele Archangel among its sights. Rebuilt in XIV century on the ruins of an earlier building, it became a cathedral in 1353, the main entrance dates back to 1326. Inside is a magnificent statue of Saint Michael, the Archangel. The church of Saint Francis has the "trecentesco portale" - a fourteenth-century entrance, in the Ariane school style, while the interior was restructured in the eighteenth century. The Franciscan convent, which is now the town hall, was founded after the destruction of the townby of Federico the second in 1240. There are also some noteworthy examples of baroque architecture including the Church of Saint Augustin, the Church of Saint Bernardo and the Church of Saint
