The Town
Mosciano lies in a wonderful position, in beautiful countryside, between the mountains and the sea and is renowned for its traditions and high-quality furniture. It is 225 metres above sea level and about 10 km from the beach. Mosciano enjoys a very pleasant climate and is easily reached by bus or train. In the town itself are banks, a post office, a big supermarket, bars, restaurants, a large variety of shops, a cinema and a theatre.
At the moment the population is about 2,500 inhabitants.
Mosciano, built in the ninth century, was an important commercial centre in the late Middle Ages. The old town walls can still be seen with a fine six-sided tower, where the entrance to the cathedral is. It is also worth paying a visit to the Castle of Montone, the Town Hall tower, both built in fine brickwork and to the Monastery of the Sette Santi Fratelli Church of Sant'Antonio. There are numerous festivals, celebrations and events throughout the year in the whole area. One of the most famous celebrations in Mosciano is the"Gnocchi" and Abruzzese Cuisine Festival which starts in the first week of July. Near the town many farm restaurants offer traditional cooking often made from local organically-grown produce
The Mountains
In about an hour you can get close to the highest peak of the entire Appennine mountain range, which runs down the spine of italy - the Gran Sasso mountain and, next to it, Campo Imperatore plateau. Campo Imperatore, is the highest altitude skiing resort in Abruzzo, with ski lifts going up as high as 2233 m. In summer time it can be easily reached by road, enjoying spectacular views, while in the winter it is necessary to take a cable car. The altitude ensures good snow for most of the winter.
Slightly lower down there are also 4 other ski lifts. Campo Imperatore is also ideal for cross-country skiing, the gullies on the Gran Sasso are great for off-piste and ski-mountaineering, such as the Tre Valloni slope.
The Beach
Mosciano is only 10 km from Giulianova beach, which is one of the most popular and well-loved seaside area in Abruzzo for families. This popularity is due to the wide sandy beaches, which are approximately 7 miles long. The resort offers holiday accomodation and tourist facilities - along with the promenade there are numerous hotels, bars, restaurants, discos, clubs, an indoor pool and other sports facilities. There is also a harbour.
